Peewee Youngfellows win against Regina, Melville

The Weyburn Peewee Youngfellows continued their Regina AAA League schedule last week, picking up wins over Melville and Regina.

The week's schedule started on Thursday in Regina against the Pacers. The Youngfellows scored a run in the top of the first inning as Lyndon Lumb came home on a RBI single by Derrick Pouliot.

Regina answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but that was all the runs Weyburn would give up. The Youngfellows scored two more in the third off of a double by Tucker Neuberger; five runs in the fourth with a RBI single from Kendall Oliver, scoring Trenton Kauf from third; and a RBI triple by Jordan Johner that scored Kendall Oliver and Donavon Lumb.

The rain forced the officials to call the game in the top of the fifth and the Youngfellows won the game 8-3. Pitching for Weyburn were Lyndon Lumb and Jordan Johner.

On Saturday, the team made their way to Melville to play a doubleheader against the Millionaires. Tucker Neuberger started on the mound for Weyburn and pitched four innings, giving up three runs from four hits and striking out five.

Justin Chuckry pitched the final two innings holding the Millionaires scoreless on two hits. The Youngfellows would score two in the first off of RBI singles from Derrick Pouliot and Zach Douglas and added one run in the fourth from a single by Caley Bjork to tie the game at three.

In the top of the sixth inning, Zach Douglas delivered another RBI single and the Youngfellows would go on to win the game 4-3.

The second half of the doubleheader saw Derrick Pouliot start for Weyburn and pitch four innings, surrendering only one run off four hits to go along with his six strike-outs. Lyndon Lumb also saw action in this game, throwing two innings and giving up two runs off of three hits with one strike out.

The Youngfellows hitters were seeing the ball well in this game, dealing out 11 hits with Derrick Pouliot belting two home runs and Jordan Johner going three-for-three. Also delivering big hits for Weyburn were Lyndon Lumb, Tucker Neuberger, Zach Douglas, Jeff Nikolejsin, Kendall Oliver and Dylan Frey. Weyburn took the second game against Melville by a score of 9-3.

On Sunday, the Millionaires were to be in Weyburn to complete the weekend home-and-home series, but the rain caused the doubleheader to be canceled. Weyburn also played on Tuesday at Jubilee Park against the Regina Buffalos, but due to publication deadlines results were not available.

The Youngfellows league record now sits at 8-5-1 and they have won five out of their last six games. The Youngfellows will now travel west this weekend to participate in the Swift Current Tournament on Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24.
