The renovations to St. Michael School are going on schedule and phase one of the project to expected to be complete by mid-August, according to Holy Family Catholic School Division director of education Shelley Rowein.

Once the construction is finished, the next step will be to relocate teachers from St. Dominic Savio School to their new classrooms.

During the Holy Family Catholic School Division meeting on Wednesday in Weyburn, the board also approved the plans for phase two at St. Michael School. The only change made to the plans was the common area will be replaced by a computer lab and a chapel.

"We will now be submitting (the plan) to Sask. Learning," said Rowein.

The board also approved their five-year facility plan. One of the highlights are that the school division will be amalgamating their board offices with the central board office in Weyburn effective the 2008-2009 school year.

The office in Estevan has served the school division well. However, the Board of Education is committed to fiscal accountability in the management of the business functions of the school division.

The second highlight from the five-year plan was the completion of phase one at St. Michael School.

Positions on the school community councils were also appointed by the board during the meeting on Wednesday. St. Dominic and St. Michael will be joining together once the students are moved over.

"The school community councils are at the point of being finalized and the next step is to prepare a learning plan," Rowein said.

The board adopted their 2007-2008 continuous improvement plan with the next step of submitting it to Sask. Learning.

Some of the focuses of the plan include the provincial assessment in learning science, writing and social skills; a communication plan; improved learner outcomes in reading and math; and Christian Ethics 20 classes to be taught at the Comp.

Two new teachers have also been hired at Holy Family, one in Radville and one at St. Michael School. Kara Friebel will be teaching at St. Olivier School and Crystal Mantei will be moving from the Weyburn Junior High to St. Michael.
