| A total of 22 bands will be taking the stage
for the Canadian Cancer Society's Cancer Jamboree on Saturday,
June 23, and Sunday, June 24, at Nickle Lake and organizers are
expecting a good turnout this year. "The community is always good at doing things for other people and helping those who are fighting cancer," said chairman Les Hill. The music will begin on Saturday, June 23, at 1 p.m. with Jodi Faith taking the stage until 1:30 p.m. Other bands playing on Saturday, in the order that they will appear, are Vic Messer, East 14th, Old Dogs, Pirates of the Souris River, Cassaway, Foxx Worthee, The Sweet Spot and Kenny Wade. Stephen James Larson will be the final act to hit the stage on Saturday at 8:20 p.m. and is scheduled to finish his set at 9 p.m. Each performer will have either 30 or 40 minute sets on Saturday. Sunday, June 24, will kick off with a pancake breakfast for those in attendance from 8-11 a.m. and the first act, "Old Man Keimo" Keith Whyte, will begin playing at 10 a.m. The rest of the bands playing on Sunday are Lexy Tytlandsvik, Jennifer Jade Kerr, Tenille Arts, Remnant, Old Skool, Lisa Marie and Wolf Creek, Cruel Country, R.J. and the Boys, Lightning Creek, Louisiana Jane and Glenna Switzer and Black Water. Chris Henderson will be wrapping up the show with the final set from 6-7 p.m. Sunday's performances will be in 30-minute sets except for the final act. The Regina Country Music Association will once again be setting up children's games, such as a coconut throw and a putting green for both days of the jamboree. Something new this year at the jamboree will be a two-day mini-golf tournament. Anyone interested in signing up for the tournament can call the Cancer Society office. A motor blow and burnout competition will be taking place on Sunday, June 24, with prizes to be given out to the winners. Also taking place on both days will be a Show 'N Shine put on by the Weyburn Antique Car Club. The cost to enter into the Show 'N Shine is $10 for as many vehicles as you like. The Car Club is not expecting any expenses, so all of the proceeds from the car show will be going to the Canadian Cancer Society. No prizes or awards will be given out this year for the Show 'N Shine. There will be a beverage gardens as well as the Nickle Lake canteen, the Chuckwagon and the M&M Ice Cream bus will be on hand to serve food. Patrons are reminded that if they drink, they should not drive. Admission to the Cancer Jamboree has not changed from last year. It will be $6 for one day or $10 for both days, plus the gate admission to get into Nickle Lake. Volunteers are still needed for the jamboree. Anyone who is interested in helping out can contact Margaret Hill at the Canadian Cancer Society Southeast Unit office. "I hope that, with the crowd and the volunteers, it is going to be a really good show," Les Hill said. All of the proceeds raised from the Cancer Jamboree will be going to the Canadian Cancer Society to help in their fight to find a cure for cancer.
