Creelman readies for 103rd 'Biggest Little Fair'

Organizers with the Creelman Agricultural Society are busily putting the final touches on the plans for Creelman's 103rd annual Summer Fair, known as the "Biggest Little Fair in Saskatchewan", to be held on Saturday, July 21.

The fair will have a full day of attractions and activities for every age to enjoy, as organizers continue to hold the event on a Saturday after nearly a century of holding it on a Monday.

The busy schedule of events kicks off with a pancake breakfast, which runs from 7 to 9 a.m., followed by the parade at 10 a.m.

Organizers expect the parade will be a good size, with floats by community groups and organizations, businesses, costumed and riding horses, and classic and antique cars. There are prizes for the best commercial, non-commercial and the Neil McCallum parade award for the float that best captures the spirit of the Creelman Fair.

Throughout the day, there will be many activities, attractions and displays for people to enjoy.

These include a dog and cat show, ball and slowpitch on the ball diamonds, and a horse and cattle show, with local producers and 4-H participants all taking part.

For the children, there are a wide variety of attractions, including a clown show, a "play-in-the-clay" feature, pony rides, and of course midway rides on the fair grounds, provided by a Brandon company this year.

When the family gets tired, hungry or thirsty, there are options available as well. There will be a hamburger booth on the grounds, and in the rink, there are cold plate meals available as well as refreshment gardens.

While cooling your heels in the rink, take in the exhibits for the Agricultural Society Fair, as well as the trade and craft show.

The ever-popular pig scramble will be held in the rink, with children and older ones making the mad dash to be the first ones to catch the pig, and there will be beach volleyball games to enjoy on the grounds.
