Weyburn student Denver Klein will be part of a delegation of 15 students from Saskatchewan who will attend the 13th annual National Historica Fair in Lethbridge, Alta., from July 9 to 16. The National Historica Fair will bring together 165 students from across Canada for a week of learning and adventure, culminating with a public display of their heritage or history projects on Saturday, July 14, at Lethbridge's Exhibition Park. The Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta, Norm Kwong, and Senator Joyce Fairbairn will bring greetings to the students and visitors. Denver, a student at Assiniboia Park Elementary School, will show a project that tells the story of fur trappers and fur trapping in Canada. While in Lethbridge, Denver will meet new friends with students coming from Newfoundland, Nunavut and B.C., and from many points in between. They will spend the week exploring the many historic and cultural sites in the Lethbridge region, such as Fort Whoop-Up, Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village, the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre, the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens, and Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. The delegates to the national fair were selected from the more than 275,000 students in more than 1,000 communities who took part in heritage fairs locally and at the regional level. Denver's exhibit was chosen at the Regional Heritage Fair held in Regina. The Historica Fairs are an initiative of the Historica Foundation of Canada, which is a charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadians discover the stories that make our country unique. |
