Golf Club hosting Senior Provincial Championships

From Tuesday, July 24, to Thursday, July 26, the Weyburn Golf Club will be hosting the Saskatchewan Senior Men's and Women's Provincial Championship.

The field will be limited to 144 golfers, regardless of gender. They will be playing a total of 54 holes with no cut line. The golfing will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24.

Last year's senior men's winner was Jim Scisson of Saskatoon. He was joined on the provincial team by Gary Tuffs, Herb Weinmeyer and Bill Cameron. This year's provincial team will compete at the Senior Men's National Championship from Tuesday, Sept. 4, to Friday, Sept. 7, in Peterborough, Ont.

Winning the senior women's event last year was Lorie Boyle of Moose Jaw. She was joined by Geri Street, Joyce Obrigewitsch and Denise Winslow on the provincial team. This year's women's provincial team will compete at the Senior Women's National Championship from Monday, Aug. 20, to Thursday, Aug. 23, in Waskesia Lake, Sask.

"This is a showcase," said Weyburn Golf Club manager Bill Rudachyk. "It is a showcase that our club is capable of holding a provincial championship."

Rudachyk is hoping this will open more doors for the golf club, such as hosting the amateur or mid-amateur men's or women's championships.

Results will be posted at the Saskatchewan Golf Association's web site at www.saskgolf.com.
