A week after the Weyburn Humane Society reported overcrowded conditions, staff Janna Holtz said that conditions have improved slightly. "We still have a few too many animals in the shelter, but it is not as bad as it had been last week." Right after the article was published in last week's edition of the Weyburn Review, the Humane Society has had a busy couple of days of families looking over the animals and people dropping off donations for the society. "We are really grateful to everyone who came in," said Holtz. Five dogs and three kittens were adopted out in the last week, including basset hound Copper, a Labrador-cross named Dutchess, three Rottweiler-cross puppies and kittens Charlie, Bibs and Moocha. Holtz mentioned that "there were also a few adoptions that were finalized as well." Even after these adoptions, that still leaves the Humane Society to care for 20 cats and 14 dogs, as well as having to keep one kennel open for animal control. This means that there are still plenty of animals still waiting for a good home at the Weyburn Humane Society, and families can drop in anytime during their hours of operations. The Weyburn Humane Society is open from 1-4:30 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. seven days a week. Their staff are always willing to help a family find the perfect pet for them. |
