Checking a sample of wheat

Weyburn area producer Jeff Gaab looks over a sample of the red Spring wheat he had been combining in this field south of Weyburn on Wednesday. His family had three combines out working this 300-acre field under the warm sunshine, and Gaab said the wheat looked good for both yield and quality. After this field, Gaab has some wheat, flax and oats to finish off for this year's harvest operations, and the warm, sunny weather of the past week enabled much of that work to get done for him and for many Weyburn area producers.

No holding them back now

A group of Grade 10 students, all new to the Weyburn Comprehensive School, get held back by the SRC mascot "Eddie the Eagle" and members Jamie Berling at left and Justin Tracey at right during registration day on Wednesday. The WCS student representative council had the halls deck out with caution tape and yield and stop signs on the first day of registration for students, with every member dressing in a construction worker or highway worker outfit and taking the new Grade 10 students for tours around their new school. Wednesday was also the first day of classes for several other Weyburn public, separate and rural schools. Now that students are back to class motorists are reminded to watch the road for their own signs of having to stop or yield.
