The Weyburn Police Service are investigating a series of vehicle damages caused over the Labour Day weekend, including six incidents of tire slashings and several of spray painting of vehicles. The majority of the damages were reported to police on Sunday, with tires slashed on five vehicles on Seventh Avenue South and Third Street South, and vehicles were spray painted at Park Avenue and Second Street. In addition, a vehicle on Laing Crescent had its front window smashed. On Monday, a truck had its tires slashed on Seventh Avenue South, and a vehicle on Park Avenue was spray painted on the driver's side. Police said there were several other reports of spray-painted vehicles in the city, but the callers were able to remove the paint. City police were also busy over the holiday weekend with several fights, domestic disputes, and in one a male was arrested on outstanding warrants from Regina. On Sept. 1, a female young offender who had left the province returned and was arrested for 23 outstanding charges from incidents in the summer of 2006. She was held in custody and appeared in court in Regina on Tuesday. In the meantime, the Milestone RCMP reported that a farm shed located near Milestone was entered some time between 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and the early morning hours of Aug. 25, and a number of items were stolen. The thefts included a field guidance Outback GPS unit, a small amount of gas siphoned out of a grain truck, and several pop bottles., There were similar reports of gas being stolen reported to the RCMP from this same time frame. The Weyburn RCMP report that a sign put up by EnCana south of Weyburn was vandalized. The sign, put up to promote safe driving, was destroyed by a vehicle some time between 6 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 25. The sign was located 22 kilometres south of the city and 2.5 km east of Highway 35 on the Weyburn Oilfield Road. Police ask if anyone has information on any of the above incidents in Weyburn or area to call their local police, or call the toll-free Crime Stoppers tips line at 1-800-222-8477. Callers do not have to reveal their identity, and calls are not recorded or traced. Tips which lead to an arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000. |
