The 26th annual United Way Communithon will be holding a poster contest with all of the Weyburn elementary schools. Each entry into the contest will receive a small prize or coupon from a local business. The top two entries, one boy and one girl, will be awarded with special prizes. The winners will also be known as Junior Captain United and Junior Lady Charity. They will be able to help Captain United, Dalton Mainil, and Lady Charity, Melissa Hoffman, during the Communithon weekend. Following the kickoff luncheon at Knox Hall on Sept. 10, the first donation of $150 was made to the Communithon. Volunteers are needed to help out with this year's Communithon, which takes place Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Weyburn Comprehensive School Cafetorium. Anyone interested can contact Sandy Alexander or e-mail alexander.sandra@sasktel.net. Any business that is interested in holding fundraisers, raffles, challenges or special events can also contact Alexander. The Communithon entertainment committee is also looking for individuals interested in providing entertainment for this year's event. Those interested can contact Tammy Lawrence to get into the lineup. The United Way will be having a special event as part of their business projects on Monday, Oct. 15, at Miles Agencies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be Wawanesa Days with coffee, doughnuts and door prizes. A donation of $1 will be made to the United Way for each person who signs the guest book. Organizers are hoping to get at least 500 people out for this event. |
