WCS girls soccer snap losing streak

The Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles girls soccer team snapped a five-game losing streak on Thursday with a 1-0 win over Estevan at the Comp soccer field.

Paige Van De Sype had the only goal with about three minutes left in the game for the Eagles and Jamie Berling picked up the shutout in goal.

"It was very well played and one of the most exciting games we have played in a couple of years," said head coach Scott Benning.

Benning gave special recognition Kim Dupont and Megan Kalk on defence, who put a lot of pressure on the Estevan offence.

The Eagles tried a new formation for this game which helped them pick up the win, but the team still has a long ways to go.

"We had plenty of scoring chances again and we didn't capitalize," said Benning.

Weyburn wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday afternoon at the Comp soccer pitch against Moose Jaw Vanier. Due to publication deadlines, however, results were not available. The quarter-finals for the Moose Jaw high school soccer league will begin on Thursday, Oct. 11, in Moose Jaw.
