Three members of the Weyburn Writers Group will give a joint public reading at the Weyburn Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 8, starting at 7 p.m. The readings will be given by Anne Lazurko, Jean Fahlman and Audrey Nerbas, and will include creative non-fiction, fiction and poetry. Fahlman also gave a reading at the Communithon on Friday. At the Oct. 15 meeting of the Writers Group, it was decided to change the monthly meeting date from Mondays to Wednesdays to avoid other commitments. The group will now meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Public Library. Anyone interested in writing is welcome to attend. Leanne Minogue was a panel member at the Saskatchewan Writers Guild fall conference in Regina, representing people who have recently published their first book. Minogue's play, Dry Streak, was published in book form and was nominated for a Saskatchewan First Book award earlier this year. The play was recently produced in Regina, and has been produced in Saskatoon, Weyburn and a number of smaller centres. The Weyburn Writers Group received a grant from the Sask. Writers Guild in September, which will be used to bring an author in to instruct a workshop, or for other educational writing events. For motivation, each member at the October meeting set a specific writing goal for the next month and will report their progress at the next meeting. |
