Haverstock and Wallace to speak at tourism seminar

Lynda Haverstock, president and CEO of Tourism Saskatchewan, will be the keynote speaker at the Weyburn Tomorrow "Building the Future" tourism symposium on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Tommy Douglas Centre.

The former Lieutenant Governor recently presided over Saskatchewan's very first provincial tourism event in Regina, which attracted delegates from around the province as well as national and international speakers.

The Weyburn Tomorrow event, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature local speakers as well as speakers representing the Southeast Tourism Association. Several young Weyburn musicians will provide musical entertainment interspersed throughout the evening's program.

"Building The Future" will focus on the state of the many cultural and tourism attractions in Weyburn and throughout the southeast Saskatchewan area.

"I feel that an exploration of the many blessings we have in terms of tourism is a necessary part of improving their presentation and developing events and a plan to promote the entire area," says John Nolan, chair of the Weyburn Tomorrow committee.

"There are many challenges to making all of Saskatchewan a genuine tourist destination and Weyburn can do a great deal to support this. It's the first step in an important journey to Saskatchewan's future."

Local speakers will include Art Wallace, president of the Soo Line Historical Museum; Rod Sidloski, chair of HELP International; and Karen Weisgerber, Southeast Tourism Association.

Admission to the Weyburn Tomorrow event is by donation. A silent auction will be part of the reception to follow the event. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Weyburn Tomorrow was established in November, 2006 and is comprised of a small group of city organizations which focus on cultural, environmental and tourism matters. Its mission is to help improve the quality of life in Weyburn and the surrounding district.
