Touring the Festival of Trees

Pat Corneil and Patti Shaw take a moment to look at the 'I Spy' Christmas tree, during their tour through the trees and items on display at the Family Place Festival of Trees on Wednesday. The Festival of Trees is on-going at the City Centre Mall, until the auction evening of Thursday, Nov. 22, when all of the items will be sold to the highest bidder. There are 26 Christmas trees and about 40 silent auction items that will be auctioned off, with 12 of the Christmas trees being featured in a live auction that starts at 7:30 p.m. The proceeds from the Festival of Trees goes towards the Family Place and their programs.

Student designs, welds bison

Comp student Andrew Horner shows off his metal bison that he designed and welded together out of parts of old farm equipment. He had the idea from a play he was reading in English class, and thought of this project as a way to pay tribute both to the bison which used to dot the prairies, and to the earliest generations of farmers who broke the land. The implement pieces are from his family's farm at Creelman, and all were used in farming the land. Horner will put his creation up for silent auction at the Comp's upcoming Fowl Supper on Monday, Nov. 26, with half of the proceeds to be donated to the school.
