Need a tree for Christmas? The Young Fellows Christmas Tree Lot will be open for sale on Monday, Nov. 26, in the lot behind the Weyburn Co-op Food Store on Second Street. Hours of operation are weekdays from noon to 8:30 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. The tree lot will stay open from Nov. 26 until Dec. 21. The trees come in varieties of Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir, White Pine and Douglas Fir. Balsam Fir is a medium-sized tree which is a dark green pyramidal tree with flexible branches and aromatic needles. Fraser Fir is similar to Balsam Fir in height, with silver-green needles that are soft to the touch, firm branches and a nice scent. Canaan Fir is a relative newcomer to the market, with similarities to both Fraser and Balsam Firs in growth and appearance. White Pine has a lush fullness, with flexible branches and long-lasting needles; this tree has little or no fragrance and is best Christmas tree for people who suffer from allergic reactions to more fragrant trees. Douglas Fir has soft shiny green long needles that emit a sweet scent when crushed and little space between branches. When placing the tree in the home, set up the tree in a location well away from heat registers, space heaters, fire places, wood stoves, televisions, computer monitors and other heat sources as the heat source will speed up evaporation and moisture loss of the tree. All proceeds of the tree sale stay within the community, as the Young Fellows put the funds back into the community. |
