Atom WIT Wings bring home top spot in Estevan

The Weyburn Atom WIT Wings traveled to Estevan for a tournament this past weekend, where they came out the big winners, taking the A-side final.

Weyburn played three games on Saturday, winning the first match against the Prairie Storm 5-2. Scoring for Weyburn this game was Tanner Herlick with assists from Jarrett Metheral and Cole Rooney. Regan Nagy scored twice with Scott Jones assisting on both and Kassidy Sjostrand assisting on one of the goals. Jack Flaman scored twice with Scott Jones assisting on both goals and Logan Leslie and Tanner Herlick also picking up assists.

Nicholas Cuthbert picked up the win between the pipes for the WIT Wings. Drew Fellner picked up the player of the game award.

Game two was a hard-fought game against Yorkton that ended up in an 1-1 tie. Braeden Pyne made numerous saves to keep Weyburn in the game. Regan Nagy scored for Weyburn with assists from Jack Flaman and Cole Rooney. The player of the game award went to Logan Leslie.

Game three was played against the Regina Kings, with Weyburn coming out on top 8-5.

Scoring for Weyburn were Kolin Piwarski assisted by Cameron Evans. Jarrett Metheral picked up two goals with assists coming from Tanner Herlick on one and Delaney Frey and Brandt Hudson on the other.

Tanner Herlick scored the third goal with Jarrett Metheral picking up the assist. The fourth and fifth goals came from Delaney Frey with Brandt Hudson assisting on one and Jarrett Metheral assisting on the other.

Regan Nagy scored the sixth goal unassisted and Jack Flaman scored number seven with the assist from Drew Fellner. The final goal came from Jarrett Metheral with assists from Delaney Frey and Brandt Hudson.

Nicholas Cuthbert got the win in net. The player of the game award was given to Delaney Frey. The win sealed first place in their pool, giving the Wings a trip to the A-side final.

The A-side final was played on Sunday against the Regina Sharks. Braeden Pyne had a solid game in goal, only letting one goal past him, while his teammates scored four goals on the Sharks.

Scoring for Weyburn was Scott Jones with two goals, Jack Flaman assists on both and Regan Nagy helping out with one. Tylar Fox also added a marker with assists from Kolin Piwarski and Cameron Evans. Regan Nagy scored the final goal of the tournament assisted by Jack Flaman and Kassidy Sjostrand. The player of the game award went to Jack Flaman.

Coach George Pyne said there was a very good team effort and he was proud of his players.

The next action for the Atom WIT Wings will be in Weyburn when they host the Western Prospects Challenge Tournament from Thursday, Dec. 6, to Sunday, Dec. 9.
