The Bantam Female Canadians attended the "Female Hockey Challenge" in Regina over the weekend, placing second in the A-side. Playing on the team is Elanne Krainyk, Britta Von Hagen, Jens Neuberger, Emily Ryan, Alexis Larson, Alyssa Spencer, Riley Loreth, Crysta Geisler, Taera McGauley, Taylor Hoium, Monica Gordon, Paige Bartlett, Haley Wiles, Meghan Sherven, Paloma Proszak, coach Darren Larson, assistant coaches Darren Loreth and Darin Wiles, and manager Ron Bartlett. Missing for the weekend was assistant coach Todd Neuberger. The weekend began with one game on Friday night, which the girls won 5-3 against the Saskatoon Comet Outlaws. On Saturday, they had two games, one against the Regina Predators, which they won 4-1, and the other against the Regina Jaguars, which they won 5-0. They were on their way to the A-side final on Sunday against the Swift Current Colts. Little did the girls know they were in for another nail-biter. Weyburn's first goal was scored by Britta Von Hagen and the second by Taera McGauley. The score after the third period was 2-2. They took a short break, on-ice, and then began the sudden death overtime. They played two minutes of four-on-four and although they were serving a penalty for part of the two minutes, kept the game at a tie. Then another two minutes of three-on-three which still resulted in a tie. The clock was then set at 20 minutes of playing two-on-two. After nearly five minutes, Swift Current scored. |
