| The Weyburn Penta Gold Wings went into their
Christmas break on a high note, as they defeated the Prince Albert
Bears 3-2 on Dec. 22 at the Colosseum. "It was quite a fitting game," said head coach Jim Onstad. "After being down 2-0, we came back with three goals in the third. It was a nice way to end it." Prince Albert got out to an early lead with a goal in the first period. The Bears then went up by two with a goal at 12:25 of the third period. The girls kept fighting and scored three goals in the final 6:27 of the game. Rianne Wight made it an one-goal game at 6:27 on the power play with an assist going to Paige Bertwistle. Paige Wheeler tied up the game with 24 seconds left in the game with assists by Kristine Jellicoe and Kalin Dickson. "You have to just keep pushing. I changed up a few of the lines to have a more effective offence and we played a more high-risk game," Onstad said. With only two seconds left in the game, Amy Kelbaugh found the back of the net for the game-winning goal. Picking up assists on the play where Paige Wheeler and Kalin Dickson. Picking up the win between the pipes for the Gold Wings was Jenna Closson. Even with the win, Onstad would like to see more offensive production from his team and the regular season comes winding down. "We need to generate more offence from all of our lines," Onstad said. "We have been struggling offensively the last few games." With the win, the Penta Gold Wings move into a tie for fifth place in the standings with the Battlefords. Weyburn has a record of seven wins, nine losses and one tie for 15 points. The next action for the Penta Gold Wings will be Saturday, Jan. 5, and Sunday, Jan. 6, when they hit the road to face the Battlefords. The next home game for the Gold Wings will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, against the Notre Dame Hounds at 8 p.m. at the Colosseum. |
