Coach Darren Larson and the provincial Bantam female Weyburn Wings participated in the eighth annual Prince Albert Female Hockey Tournament from Jan. 4- Weyburn lost in the final, capturing second place for their efforts. The Wings finished first in their pool with a 3-0 round-robin record, posting wins over the Saskatoon Comets, Biggar Nationals and the Melfort Mustangs. This earned them a semifinal match against the Battleford Sharks. In the semifinal, each team scored a shorthanded goal and the first period was tied at one. Weyburn scored five unanswered goals in the second to take a 6-1 lead after two. Weyburn advanced to the A-final against the Winnipeg Titans. A very fast-paced first period ended with Winnipeg holding a 2-1 lead. End-to-end action with both goalies making incredible saves highlighted an entertaining period. Winnipeg capitalized on their two power play opportunities in the second period to hold a 4-1 lead after two periods. A determined Weyburn Wings team came out flying to start the third period. Weyburn scored early in the third to make it a 4-2 game. For the next 15 minutes, Weyburn demonstrated an offensive outburst attempting to eliminate the two-goal deficit. Scoring opportunities were turned aside by a solid Winnipeg goaltender. Not to be outdone Weyburn goalie Kelsey Van De Sype made equally outstanding saves in the third period to keep Weyburn within striking distance. A fast-paced and exciting final closed with Winnipeg scoring two late goals to defeat the Wings 6-2. Head coach Darren Larson was extremely proud of his team's efforts.
