Weyburn singer, 13, to perform in musical

Chelsea Woodard, a 13-year-old Weyburn vocalist, recently performed in the musical, West Side Story, presented by Do It With Class Young People's Theatre of Regina, and will be appearing in an upcoming production with the theatre group.

Chelsea attends St. Michael School, and is the daughter of Jennifer and Darren Woodard. She was invited to audition for this musical company in 2006 by Andorlie Hillstrom, the artistic director.

She accepted the invitation and by the fall of that year she began working with the theatre under the musical direction of Robert Ursan, composer and teacher.

In 2007, Chelsea performed in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and this will play the role of Rose in The Little Prince, composed by Robert Ursan, presented by the junior division of the theatre company.

This production will be presented at the Regina Performing Arts Centre on Jan. 30, 31 and Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. each evening.

Chelsea has also worked with the senior company, and is the only member of the company from outside of Regina.

She said musical theatre is what she loves to do, and notes many members of the musical theatre have pursued careers in the theatre once they've completed their time with Do It With Class.
