These Grade 1 students from Nancy Smoliak's class at Assiniboia Park School show their finished dragon's masks while their classmates work on making theirs on Friday. From left to right are Makenzie Joa, Chantelle Sewap, Olivia Michel and Liam Zeelenberg. The class also had Chinese food for lunch, and did a dragon's dance in the Chinese tradition of starting the new year, which is the Year of the Rat. The purpose of the dance is to scare away evil spirits from the room in order to start off the new year with a clean slate.

Celebrating a win

The Weyburn Junior High's cheerleading squad carries Asia Sidloski, still taped up after being taped up to the wall, for winning the relay race at the school's pep rally on Friday afternoon.
