DeLaet struggles in pair of Gateway Tour tourneys

Weyburn native and professional golfer Graham DeLaet played in a pair of Gateway Tour events, picking up a total of $1,504.78 in winnings.

DeLaet played in the fifth Winter Series event in Litchfield Park, Ariz. from Feb. 11 to 13 and placed in a tie for 22 and picked up a cheque for $1,504.78 by shooting nine-under-par.

In the first round, he shot one bogey and three birdies on the front nine and a single bogey on the back nine for a one-under-par 71.

DeLaet held a clean scorecard in the second round as he shot three birdies on the front nine and pared out on the back nine to drop to four-under-par after two days of competition with a three-under-par 69.

The third round saw DeLaet get off to a slow start with a bogey on the first hole, but rebounded with two birdies on the front nine and four birdies on the back nine to shoot a five-under-par 67.

DeLaet then played in the sixth Winter Series event on Feb. 19 and 20 in Glendale, Ariz., but missed the cut after two rounds of play at nine-over-par. He opened the tournament with three bogies and two birdies on the front nine and a bogey and two birdies on the back nine to shoot an even-par 72.

He tried to stay in contention in the second round, but fell apart. DeLaet shot a triple bogey, two double bogies and two bogies to shot nine-over-par on the front nine. On the back nine, he shot a bogey and two birdies to end the round eight-over-par.

The next event on the Gateway Tour Winter Series is from Feb. 26 to Thursday, Feb. 28 in Rio Verde, Ariz.
