More proposed development in the RM of Weyburn took up much of the council's time at their monthly meeting on Wednesday. The RM looked over a proposal from the City of Weyburn for their new lagoon to be built just southeast of the city, near the end of Nickle Lake, and council decided to ask for more information from the city. "There are a few ratepayers who would be impacted, by having their access to certain lands restricted," said Reeve Carmen Sterling, adding the RM wants to find out how the city will address the concerns raised. The RM gave discretionary approval to an application from Viterra's terminal for storage of anhydrous ammonia, similar to a recent proposal from Weyburn Inland Terminal for storage of the fertilizer products. In regard to a proposal for 90 new residential lots in a subdivision east of Weyburn, the RM said concerns were raised about sewage disposal from the lots. The developer is proposing to develop 25 two-acre lots in the first phase, but as Reeve Sterling pointed out, the concerns are as relevant for the entire subdivision. "We left that in the hands of the government. That's a factor they've been dealing with as well. They're not at the approval stage yet, so we're no closer to seeing that begin," said the reeve, adding that even though the developer is just looking at the initial 25-lot phase, "we have to look at the end product when it comes to sewage disposal." Coming up for the RM will be the annual SARM convention on March 10-13, to which some of the council members will be going. |
