Twirlers Square Dance Club hold annual meeting

The Weyburn Twirlers Square Dance Club held their annual meeting, with a luncheon at the Captain's Table, on Wednesday with 22 members present.

President Norm Eggum reported a good year of dancing. Regular dance nights were held on Thursday evenings throughout the dance season, with Bob and Marion Lees from Estevan as the caller couple.

Two special dances were held, with Valerie and Lane Wright as callers. The Twirlers have had visitors from Moose Jaw, Regina and Estevan attend dances throughout the year.

The Twirlers hosted a zone dance in October, and will be hosting the "All Callers Dance" on Sunday, April 6, and the last dance of the season will be held on Thursday, March 20.

The Club's annual summer picnic was again held at the gazebo in River Park. It was an opportunity for all square dancers from near and far to get together in the off season of square dancing. Plans are being made for this summer's picnic.

The Twirlers participated in dancing for the Weyburn and District United Way Communithon once again - Norm also reported that the square dance instructions given by the Twirlers at the Midale Central School for 28 or more students was met with great enthusiasm from the students, and proved to be very successful.

A discussion was held, and it was decided that the executive for the coming year remain the same.

An outline of dances was planned for the coming season, which starts in the fall, with dancing to begin in October. Weyburn will be hosting the annual zone workshop and dance on Nov. 16, 2008, with caller couple Roger and Bernadette McNeil from Fargo, N.D.

Ideas and plans for fundraisers for the club were also discussed. There is a possibility for square dance lessons for new dancers, or for those who would like to take lessons in the fall, may be arranged.

The Weyburn Twirlers will be hosting the annual Saskatchewan Federation Square and Round Dance Weekend on Nov. 6, 7 and 8, 2009. Some of the preliminary plans were made for that.

Gordon James expressed, on behalf of the club, an appreciation to the executive for the work and effort put forth to make their club a success.
