The Weyburn 4-H Beef Club held their organizational meeting with the election of officers on Nov. 6. Officers include Robert Pineo as president, Ryley Gutzke as vice president, Jason Shelly as secretary, Jade Ivan as treasurer, Tyson Gutzke as reporter and the phoning committee, Alexis Peterson, Daniel Fellner and Taylor Wahl. The Weyburn 4-H Beef Club has 32 members for 2007/08. Bev Gordon is General Leader, Mike and Carla Fellner are Beef Leaders and Jeff and Tina Clay are Clover Bud Leaders. On Jan. 6, the club weighed their steers at Holdstock Livestock. Members will be able to track their animals progress and this weight will also be a starting point to determine who is the winner of the Rate of Gain award (the animal which gains the most weight per day) at Achievement Day. On Jan. 25 the club attended an informed tour of the Co-op Feed Mills. The Junior Curling team proved tough to beat. The team consisted of Reed Ivan, Alexis Peterson, Logan Lazurko and Randy Peterson. Team coach was Brian Peterson. Districts were held at Lake Alma on Jan. 4 and 5, hosted by Lomond 4-H. The team won first place, earning the chance to advance to regionals in Estevan on January 11 and 13. Once again the team won first, sending them to provincials, which were held Feb. 2 and 3. Mandatory club speeches were held on Feb. 20. Judges were Tanis Abramson, Kim Ingram and Richard Wick. Winners included: For Clover Buds, Joel Nimegeers earned first place and Jacey Fellner in second. Winning juniors was Logan Lazurko in first and Alexis Peterson in second. Placing at the intermediate level was Tyson Gutzke in first and Ryley Gutzke in second. Winning the senior level was Brodie Gutzke in first and Jade Ivan in second. Area speeches were held in Weyburn on March 2, hosted by the Weyburn Light Horse 4-H Club. Winners were: For Clover Buds, Makayla Bryce of Arcola-Kisbey Beef Club earned first place and Cody Johnston of Moose Mountain Multiple Club in second. Winning juniors was Logan Lazurko of Weyburn Beef Club in first and Maddy Lazurko of Weyburn Light Horse 4-H Club in second. Winning intermediates was Erin Clarke of Weyburn Light Horse Club in first and Tyson Gutzke of Weyburn Beef Club in second. Placing at the senior level was Kendall McCormick of Weyburn Light Horse Club in first and Jade Ivan of Weyburn Beef Club in second. First place winners went on to district speeches on March 9, hosted by Brokenshell Beef Club. The Regina Spring Steer and Heifer Show was held this past weekend, March 15-16, with several members attending. The Yorkton Spring Steer and Heifer Show will be March 27-29 and several members from the club will be in attendance. |
