The Weyburn Senior Beavers executive held their annual general meeting on Wednesday night, and reviewed their financial status, held an election of officers, discussed minimum park standards for the Western Major Baseball League, and the need for billets for the upcoming season. There were increases in both expenses and revenues for the Weyburn Senior Beavers baseball club. From 2006, expenses rose from $58,222 to $74,460. Over the same period, their income rose from $68,389 to $72,072. Overall, this means that the Senior Beavers baseball club will start the season with a deficit of $2,388. An election of officers was held, with Garnet Hansen retaining the position of president of the club, Ken Larson retaining the position of vice-president, Jan Beahm as secretary and Jolie Erick as treasurer. The new head coach for the 2008 was introduced, as Rocco Mossuto will be behind the bench for the Beavers this season. A tentative player roster was also considered, as well as the outlook for the Beavers schedule for the season. The Weyburn Beavers will start the season on June 2, when they will play in Regina. Then they will have three back-to-back home games against Medicine Hat on June 4, 5 and 6. Season tickets are now available, with adults costing $90 and seniors costing $70. They can be bought from any Beavers club executive member. As well the yearly Grand Slam 50/50 draw has started, with tickets costing $3 for one or $5 for two. The Grand Slam tickets will be sold until the first home game of the season, with the expected payout to be roughly $3,000. Recently, the Western Major Baseball league changed their rules and regulation regarding the minimal standards for all WMBL baseball venues. With the exception of permanent washrooms and a concession with running water, the Senior Beavers Baseball Club met all the new standards of the WMBL. The club is talking to the Leisure Services of the City of Weyburn to negotiate updates to the washrooms and concession. Once again this year, the Weyburn Senior Beavers will be offering top-notch baseball instruction to Weyburn and area youth, and will be running youth clinics for ages seven to 11 and player development programs for ages 11 to 17. Finally, the Senior Beavers are in need of billets for the season, and are looking for residents who can offer room and board to a player from May 27 to August 15. Residents who billet a player will be paid $300 a month, plus will be given a season ticket for all home games. For more information on billets, obtaining season tickets or 50/50 tickets, or how to be involved with the Senior Beavers Baseball Club, interested parties are asked to call Garnet Hansen. |
