Wildlife Federation has banquet, awards night

The Weyburn Wildlife Federation held a sold-out banquet and trophy night on Saturday at McKenna Hall, with around 220 people in attendance for the awards and fundraiser auction of items.

For the top fish caught in the past year, the following awards were presented. For largest Northern pike, Cole Kennedy won the Mike Litovitch Memorial award for his pike, which weighed 23 pounds six ounces. He was also the top junior in the province with this fish, and was sixth overall in the province.

For best walleye, Kevin Campbell won for his fish which weighed 14.65 pounds, and Lorraine Chinski won the Wilbur May Memorial award for best perch, weighing 1.7 pounds.

In the whitetail deer category, Darcy Barth won for typical buck; Bud Rosiak won for non-typical buck; Scott Brady won for a buck taken by archery; Chet Paslawski won the Larry Jacobson Memorial Award for junior whitetail buck; and Leo Chinski won for buck by weight (197 pounds).

In the mule deer category, Peter Thackeray won for typical buck; Duane Kyrylchuk won for non-typical buck with a Henry Kelsey qualifying animal; Brent Olfert won for buck taken by archery; and Chet Paslawski had junior mule deer buck.

In the birds category, Glen Fleming and Chet Paslawski tied for the Todd Tytlandsvik Memorial award for pheasant with 37 bars; Darryl Seitz won for goose, weighing 13.15 pounds.

For antelope, Chet Paslawski won the Bruno Guenther trophy for his animal taken by archery.

For elk, Duane Kyrylchuk won for typical, and Kevin Campbell had best non-typical. Both animals are Henry Kelsey qualifying animals.

For moose, Jeremy L'Heureux was the top hunter, and for bear, Robert Pickering won for bear taken by rifle, and Cindy Paslawski won for bear taken by archery.

The top grand slam award went to George Kiraly, for taking an elk cow, whitetail buck and mule deer buck. Other grand slams were won by Leo Chinski, Chet Paslawski and Cindy Paslawski.

The Best Overall Big Game Animal taken by muzzle-loader, the Doug Lanz Memorial award, went to John Witkowski, who took a typical mule deer.

The Fred Garner Memorial Award for outstanding member of the year went to Joe Honig.
