The Weyburn Agricultural Society will be presenting the fifth annual Weyburn Youth Talent Search in conjunction with their annual Fair from Monday, June 30, to Wednesday, July 2. "This is our fifth year and it is slowly starting to grow and we are seeing bigger crowds attending each year," said Ag Society manager Sandy Bell. This competition is open to young people between the ages of seven to 12 in the junior competition and ages 13 to 21 in the senior competition. Auditions will take place the week of Monday, June 9, to Friday, June 13, and the top five competitors will be asked to perform at the grandstand show. "We have never had to do auditions, but this year we will be holding auditions and only taking the top five for the grandstand show because of 100th anniversary. We want to bring in more events and acts," said Sandy Bell. The top five junior competitors will compete at the grandstand show on Monday evening, June 30, at 8 p.m. and the top five senior competitors will compete on Tuesday evening, July 1, at 8 p.m. There is no entry fee required and there are great prizes to be won. The winners of both the junior and senior competitions will advance to the Saskatchewan Youth Talent Search in Saskatoon during the Saskatoon Ex. on Sunday, Aug. 10. If the winners choose to advance to Saskatoon, the Weyburn Agricultural Society will pay $150 towards their expenses. The junior winner in Saskatoon will win $150 and a trophy watch. The senior winner in Saskatoon receives a $1,000 scholarship, $500 cash, a trophy watch and an all-expenses paid trip to the National Youth Finals that will take place in Saskatoon this year. Anyone who sings, dances, plays musical instruments, juggles or performs a magic act are encouraged to come out and audition. The deadline for entries is Friday, June 6. Entry forms are available at Music Craft, AM 1190, all schools, the Weyburn Ag Society office or on their website at www.weyburnagsociety.com. The Weyburn Ag Society would like to keep this as an annual event and see it grow in popularity. If anyone is interested in competing, helping with the event or to be a judge, contact Sandy Bell at the Ag Society office. |
