Minor Ball stresses need for more diamonds

During the council meeting held on April 28, the Leisure Services Commisions detailed a concern from the Weyburn Minor Ball that there were not enough diamond spaces, with current programming stretching space at the current diamond space and with expected community growth that additional diamonds will be required.

To help with some of the congestion this year, Council has agreed that the girls diamond at Tom Laing Park be included with the current agreement for the diamonds at Jubilee Park. Further discussions will be needed before any other decisions will be made regarding Tom Laing Park.

· Walk of Fame gets one step closer, after the committee approved to order recognition plaque in black granite, with 4"X6" laser etched photo, with the committee considering to increase the size of the plaque from 11'x14' to 14"x17". It was also suggested that when the plaques are done, there should be a media event or unveiling of the plaques with the family members of individuals being recognized to be invited with a reception to follow.

· Bid proposals for the supply and installation of structural steel supports for the new Colosseum seats and four new handrails were sent to three local company's, as well as two from outside Weyburn. City council approved a bid of $51,419 plus GST from 3D Metal Corp.

· Mayor Debra Button informed City Council and residents that on Wednesday, May 7, the Department of Highway will be closing Highway 39 to update the Railway Crossing by Moore Street. A detour will be in effect to accommodate traffic, with the department hoping to complete the work in one day.
