Figure skater Kelsey Nagy has been nominated for the Sask. Sport April Athlete of the Month award. She was nominated by Skate Canada Saskatchewan. Being nominated for the award came as a complete surprise to Nagy. "I didn't know that I was nominated until someone came up and told me," said Nagy. "I think that it is a great honour." Nagy, 17, received a gold medal at this year's Canadian National StarSkate competition in Ontario. She placed first overall in the Free Skate, Creative Skating Skills and Interpretive events. Seventy skaters took part in the StarSkate competition from across Canada, with 13 skaters competing in Nagy's category. Nagy is up against racquet ball player Sean Barclay of Saskatoon, pole vaulter Kelsie Hendry of Saskatoon, Tae Kwon Do champion Shannon Phillips of Regina, the Saskatoon Aqualenes synchronized swimming team and cyclist Alexandra Wrubleski of Regina. The recipient of the April Athlete of the Month award will be announced later this week.
