Pre-K program discussed by Holy Family trustees

The meeting with parents regarding Pre-Kindergarten programing was discussed at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Separate School Division board meeting on Wednesday in Weyburn. Seventeen people attended in Weyburn and eight in Estevan.

"Opportunity was provided for parent feedback and an overview of the program and a tour of the school was given," said director of education Shelley Rowein.

Arrangements are currently being made for staffing and facilities. Arrangements are also in the works for interested parents to visit a school based Pre-K program at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Separate School Division in Moose Jaw.

The board voted in favour of Holy Family taking part in the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine that is part of the Ministry of Health's Immunization Program. The program is scheduled to start in the fall of 2008.

As with all school-based immunization programs, parental consent is required and immunizations are not mandatory. Information packages including a letter from the Bishops of Saskatchewan will be provided to parents prior to the program beginning.

The Board adopted the 2008-2009 calendar in principle. The school year will begin on Monday, Aug. 25, with a staff faith inservice. Students will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

The school year will end on June 30, 2009. Following the finalization of all student and teacher days the calendar will be presented for adoption and distribution.

David Sidloski and Randy Schiller joined the meeting to discuss ways church-affiliated organizations can work together and in particular regarding a pro-life initiative.

"A number of options were discussed. Opportunity for further discussion will be provided through linkage with the various organizations on the 2008-2009 Continuous Agenda," said Rowein.

The 2008 Writing Assessment for Learning for Grades 5 and 8 have been completed. Results will be available in early fall.

Staffing for the 2008-2009 school year is underway. Resignations for the purpose of superannuation have been received from Gloria Miller from St. Dominic Savio School and Patsy Ernst from St. Olivier School.

A workshop on Board development regarding policy governance is set for Friday, Nov. 14, and Saturday, Nov. 15. Jannice Moore from The Governance Coach will facilitate the workshop.

The next meeting of the Board will be held on Thursday, June 12, in Estevan.
