Cornerstone grants given to new technology projects

In an effort to actualize their Technology Strategic plan, the South East Cornerstone School Division awarded seven Technology Infusion Projects in the spring of 2008. The goal of the projects was to provide teachers with an opportunity to demonstrate how technology can be used to improve student learning and to illustrate effective and appropriate technology infusion in Saskatchewan curriculum.

This pilot initiative was a project-based grant awarded to schools in the division. The objective was to empower schools to support the division's information technology goals and to enhance teaching in innovative ways. Awarding of the grants was based on project submissions provided by the schools. One of the criteria of the project was to present findings in a public forum to other successful project candidates, division staff and media.

Technology Infusion Projects were collaborative in nature with the successful teacher working closely with their regional technology consultant and their regional curriculum consultant. Project grants ranged in value from approximately $2,500 to approximately $4,400.

Projects that were awarded included enhancing Kindergarten ELA experiences with digital cameras, presented by Carla Giesbrecht, Laurie Ross, Robyn Ruzicka, Betty McGillivray and Kathy Betnar; information skills strategies for student researchers, presented by Laurel Reimche, Diane Stewart and Kate Bell; data probes in senior science, presented by Charles Dodsworth; math smart, presented by Colleen Sproat; enhancing student learning through the use of global position systems, presented by Kevin Butz and Jackie Wilson; audacity audio radio project, presented by Cory Olson; and digital documentation in the early years, presented by Lana McCormac, Carrie Schill and Lisa Pearce.
