Is there such a thing as coincidence, or do things happen for a reason? For Christine Hurley, a Calgary-based clairvoyant who recently spent four full, busy days in Weyburn, her "chance" meeting with two Weyburn residents and a Carlyle woman turned out to be serendipitous at the very least. She had been at the Regina airport waiting for a flight out to Calgary, when she found out all flights to Calgary were cancelled for that day. A Carlyle resident, Denise Anderson, said she would drive her Escalade SUV to Calgary, and would take anyone who would like to share the ride; three volunteered, including Hurley, and Weyburn Review publisher Darryl and Patricia Ward, who needed to catch a flight to Mexico out of Calgary. The result of the seven-hour drive to Calgary was that Hurley later booked in a stop in Weyburn, where she had never appeared before, and ended up with a packed-full schedule from July 22-25, and a promise to come back this way again in the future. "I was doing a TV series in Regina, 'The Flamboyant Clairvoyant'; I would fly in early on Tuesday and fly back out on Wednesday evening. This particular time, I was getting a flight to Calgary on Thursday morning, but there was a flight delay in Calgary because of a tremendous snowstorm, so everything was grounded," Hurley explained. Volunteering to take a ride in the SUV, along with the Wards, they were soon on their way with Darryl at the wheel. Hurley joked she has always wanted to drive a big SUV, but Darryl wasn't giving up his position behind the wheel. "I teased him all the way, for seven hours. He was very good about it," said Hurley. "We had the best time ever and laughed all the way. It was amazing." During the ride, as they neared Calgary, Hurley indicated she could see numbers around Patricia's head and said she felt her late mother was there, and that she had been very good with numbers. She also told Darryl about his late grandfather, and told him things about the kind of person he was, and in both of these cases, she was correct - and in both cases, she had not been given any information at all about these late relatives. The Wards gave her their business card, and Hurley thought there must have been a reason they were all put together for this ride to Calgary. She made some calls and set up a visit to Weyburn, seeing clients on a one-on-one basis in her hotel suite, and she ended up with "a tremendous response" from local residents. "I've been working from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day," she said, noting she saw 11 clients on her first day, followed by 16, 18 and 16 clients each day after respectively, and on the morning she was leaving to go on to Estevan, she squeezed in another three clients. "Saskatchewan just welcomes me. I know people in these smaller places often get forgotten. There's a need here, and the Saskatchewan people have just been terrific. I met some wonderful people here in Weyburn; there were some tears shed, and there's been advice given and help given. It's just been astounding," said Hurley. She will bring her "Flamboyant Clairvoyant" act to Buffalo Days in Regina, starting today, July 30 and running to Aug. 3, appearing on stage there at 3 and 8 p.m. each day. Hurley said she even enjoyed her drive out to Weyburn, which she's never driven before, and related how she ended up at the set of a popular comedy TV show, Corner Gas, at Rouleau. "I didn't know how far Weyburn was. I like to top up the gas tank, so I pulled into this corner gas station, not realizing this was a set for a TV show," she said, noting she clued in once she saw technicians with microphones and headsets around the gas station area. She greatly enjoyed the trip to Weyburn, and found she was "really well-received" once she arrived here and began seeing her appointments. "I hope I've given people hope and lifted their spirits, and was able to help them," said Hurley. "Everything happens for a reason." Asked if she will come this way again in the future, Hurley said, "As long as Buffalo Days wants me, I'll always be back." |
