Large crowds came out for Canada Day events around Yorkton on July 1. The outdoor “Good Old Fashioned Family Picnic” festivities at the Western Development Museum benefited from sunny weather. The attractions for families included dance and musical performances, hay rides, children’s games, geo-caches, food, and classic cars. The Painted Hand Casino hosted a free hot dog and hamburger lunch for those who preferred to stay out of the sun. The Parkland room stage featured dancing and entertainment from 2-4pm. The final event of the day were firework displays, one put on by the WDM and another put on by the Painted Hand Casino at the Exhibition grounds. Large crowds came out for the fireworks, which ended just before rain came down to cap off the hot day.
