The Southeast Connection Sport, Culture & Recreation District (Southeast Connection) is a non-profit community driven organization that facilitates community development and coordinates District networks to increase access to sport, culture and recreation programs and services that enhance quality of life and community vitality.
Our current board of directors are from Estevan, Weyburn, Carnduff, Kipling, White City, Pangman, Lampman, and Kisbey. Our three paid staff members are also found in locations throughout our district – Weyburn, Oxbow and Glenavon. Staff are available to visit your community to meet with your group to network and provide information on Southeast Connection programs and services.
We are the link between provincial funders and grassroots communities. The District works with the three global organizations that support sport, culture and recreation in our province – Sask Sport, SaskCulture, and Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association. We can assist you with accessing funding for sport, culture and recreation initiatives in your community, for example:
- Activity Assistance
- Mobile Playground Program
- Saskatchewan Lotteries Community Grant Program
Southeast Connection can help your organization understand how the provincial funding works and how/where communities can seek assistance. We can share information on provincial and national initiatives that your community can tap into to enhance existing strategies and/or increase participation in sport, culture and recreation activities
We advocate, promote and provide information about sport, culture and recreation opportunities. We provide information through our website, our newsletters, monthly email updates, and through direct inquiries. We acknowledge and celebrate the work and achievements of community volunteers through our annual volunteer awards program.
We provide networking opportunities such as:
- our annual general meeting
- the annual cultural connection meeting
- the annual recreation practitioners meeting
- community visitations and area input meetings
- Aboriginal sharing circles
Southeast Connection works with community groups, municipal leaders, teachers, coaches, artists, etc to build better communities. We enhance community capacity through training and leadership opportunities such as:
- Coaching development (NCCP)
- Youth leadership (High Five training)
- Fitness certification courses
- Take the Lead
- Grant Writing Workshops
We help to build creative, active, healthy communities. Join us! For more information on the Southeast Connection Sport, Culture & Recreation District, visit our website at www.southeastconnection.ca.
