Fillmore (cpd) ­— A tornado touched down at the homes of Gerald and Betty Nixon and Les, Linda, and Roxy Johnston in the afternoon of Sunday, June 17.

Some bins were toppled over and trees damaged at the Nixon home. The Johnstons lost the roof off their cattle shed and had trees damaged also.

A goose was nesting on a big bale at one end of the dugout, and was still nesting on the bale when the tornado passed, only at the other end of the dugout.

Four former 33 Central School graduates received degrees at the Spring Convocation exercises at the University of Saskatchewan recently.

Amber Leguee, daughter of Russ and Sharon Leguee, received a bachelor of science in nursing. Ashton Kosior, daughter of Stuart and Shanna Kosior, received her bachelor of commerce degree.

Devon Kosior, son of David and Peggy Kosior, received his bachelor of arts. Drew Nicholas, son of Dwayne Nicholas, Tyvan, and Kathy Nicholas, received his bachelor of science in engineering.

Fillmore’s 33 Central School held their Awards Day on June 19, with the following results.

For the junior girls volleyball  team, Kiana Griep won the MVP award while Kourtney Meyer won the Most Improved Player. The sportsmanship award went to McKayla LeFait.

On the junior boys volleyball team, Bailey Hart was awarded the MVP while Keegan Banting was named most improved player. Dylan Grieve won the Sportsmanship Award.

For the senior girls volleyball  team, Mackenzie Fahlman won the MVP award while Breann Dammann won the Most Improved Player. The Sportsmanship Award went to Kiana Griep.

On the senior boys volleyball team, Scott Paslawski was awarded the MVP while Travis Popowich was named most improved player. Willem van Staveren won the Sportsmanship Award.

For the junior girls basketball team, Kiana Griep won the MVP award while Yang Yang Zhang and McKayla LeFait won the most improved player. The Sportsmanship Award went to Logan Fahlman.

On the junior boys basketball team Bailey Hart won the MVP while Keegan Banting was awarded the most improved player. Ben Lubiens was given the Sportsmanship Award.

In junior badminton, Bailey Hart and Dylan Grieve were awarded as the MVPs and as the Most Improved Players. Becky Popowich was given the Sportsmanship Award.

In senior badminton, Dallas Bank was awarded the MVP while Breann Dammann was the Most Improved Player. Dylan Grieve was awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

On the track and field team, Mikayla Bamford won the MVP Award while Tori Glover was named the Most Improved Player. Megan Trask won the Sportsmanship Award.

Academic awards were also given out at the ceremony. Jay Boll and Calli Lubiens received Grade 3 academic awards, while Teneal Hrushowy, Hallie Lang, Lindon Smith, Megan Thomson, and Sherridan Thorne received awards in Grade 4.

Caitlyn Beare, Kailynn Bursic-Panchuk, Elisabeth Nyhus, and Yang Yang Zhang received academic awards in Grade 5 while Jordyn Trask, Emily Nyhus, and Avery Waldner received awards in Grade 6.

Andrew Allan received an academic award in Grade 7, while Ben Lubiens, Logan Fahlman, Marissa van Staveren, and Angel Southwind received awards in Grade 8.

Kiana Griep and Bailey Hart received academic awards in Grade 9.

On the Honour Roll, Grade 12 Megan Hall was named for the highest honours, with final marks averaging 90 per cent or above.

High honours, for marks between 85 and 89.9, were given to Grade 10, Mackenzie Fahlman, and Grade 12s, Scott Paslawski and Victoria Davenport.

Honours, for marks between 80 and 84.9, were given to Grade 10s, Breann Dammann, Natalie Mostowchuk, Chris Paslawski, Travis Popowich, Winston van Staveren, and Grade 12, Reid Richard.
Brad Riege and Jazmin Gaber now have a daughter. Brynn Rhea-Anne Riege was born on June 14, weighing six pounds, 12 ounces. She is a little sister for Taysen.

Chais and Natalie Johnston have a son. William Robert “Will” was born on June 16, weighing nine pounds, 12 ounces. He is a little brother for Rylee and Kendyl, and a grandson for Lorne and Lois Johnston.

Fillmore resident, Mona Hawkesford, passed away on June 19, at age 64.

Brad Hart, Vancouver, is visiting his parents, Flo and Lloyd Hart, and brother Cam Hart.
Lloyd Hall celebrated his 80th birthday on June 16 with a party, starting in the afternoon when friend Jack Grad, Vibank, gave folks a horse and buggy ride, and cousin, Clyde Hall, gave rides in his 1915 Model T.

About 85 people were hosted for supper at the home of Lloyd and Shirley Grohs, before moving over to the town hall for a social evening with 140 friends and family signing the guest book.

Those attending came from Alberta, Saskatchewan, North Dakota, Arizona, Minnesota, and Manitoba. Shirley’s cousin from North Dakota provided the music for dancing.

Several people from Fillmore attended the wedding of Nicole Nixon and Cassidy Spillman in Regina on June 16.
