Bernie Schneider, late of Weyburn, passed away June 16, 2012, at the age of 76 years. Bernie was predeceased by his parents: John and Mary Schneider; his wife, Diane Schneider; brothers-in-law: Philip Weimer and Wally Hennie. Bernie is survived by his children: Ken (Lizann) Schneider and their family, Dustin (fiancé Ashley), Mark R., Hope, Mark (Jodie) Schneider and their family, Carly, Justice (Kevin), Jackson, Julie (Shawn) Koester and their family, Brett, Cole; Sister Connie Weimer and her daughters: Leanne (Carl) Germann, Laurie (Russ) Cheveldayoff, Rhonda (Brad) McEachern; sisters and brother-in law: Bette (Verne) Leach, Joanne Hennie, Jack (Margaret) Hill, Ken (Ev) Hill, Sharon (Aden) Hubick; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Bernie was born on November 20, 1935 in Francis. At age 17, Bernie went to Edmonton, AB and completed both a gas and electric welding course. He then went to Yellowknife, NWT to work in construction. He later came home to farm with his father, John near Colfax.  He also was a truck driver for Prairie Gas and worked at the Weyburn plant for Pan Canadian Petroleum. Grain Farming was his passion, family was his life. He loved the land, seeding, harvest, the weather, the crops, the garden, the seasons, the equipment, and all the hard work associated with it. He was a community minded member to the town and people of Colfax. He played the accordion in a family band and also enjoyed old time music. On June 18th 1960, he married Diane Schneider at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Regina. Bernie and Diane enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. Their relationship was strong, true and based on solid values. They shared a common interest in sports, which they instilled in their children.  Later in life, Bernie enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s games and events. Bernie loved to watch TV while sitting in his recliner. Favorite things to watch were Blue Jays Baseball, Curling, Hockey, Westerns, Wartime movies, and the news. Other hobbies that he enjoyed with family and friends were: fishing in northern lakes, and cards (cribbage and kaiser).  Bernie was a tremendous baseball pitcher and hitter. Also, he competed competively in curling for many years winning many bonspiels. His interests in curling took him to Toronto and Newfoundland, whereby he became a curling ice maker and instructor. A service of remembrance for Bernie was held on Wednesday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, with Rev. M. Barnabas, officiating. Interment followed at Cedoux Cemetery.
