Crocus 80 Theatre will be producing a science-fiction comedy "Circle the Crops", written by Edward Willett for the City of Weyburn's centennial.
"I don't want to give away to much about our centennial piece, but I can say the audience will be asking themselves who does that character represent? Or I remember an event similar to that happening here in town," said Connie Nightingale, president of Crocus 80.
"Circle the Crops" will be set in small town Crocus, Saskatchewan. "There are some mysterious happenings in the community, and a lot of it is based on my experiences in Weyburn as the editor of the Weyburn Review," said Willett. "A lot of the action in the play is set at the local newspaper."
"This will be the first time, 'World Premiere' of Circle the Crops, and it is Crocus 80 that will be unveiling it in succession with the city's centennial," said Nightingale. "'Circle the Crops' is a brilliant science fiction piece, written by Edward Willett."
"Willett was once the Crocus 80 president. In all appropriateness, he wrote the production that Crocus 80 produced for the City of Weyburn during their 75th celebrations," added Nightingale. "So for us to once again, take part in a historical moment here is Weyburn, with Willett as a big contributor to it, seems as appropriate as it can get."
"Crocus 80 was a great opportunity for me to work in the theatre," said Willett. He added that he is still very involved in theatre in Regina, where he now lives.
"This play has never been done before, and I am very pleased that it will be brought to life and I will have a chance to give it a polish," said Willett. He added that he will not be involved in the production side, but wants to attend readings.
"We are really hoping, that with the right sponsorship, we can produce this as Theatre in The Park free of charge to our patrons," said Nightingale. "It's the one way Crocus 80 Theatre can give back to the community for being so supporting and embracing the revival of community theatre."
Crocus 80 wants to create partnerships with other community groups for this production, and interested organizations can contact them at crocus80thea...@gmail.com.
