Lynn and Dale Brady are dedicated citizens of Carlyle, who are active around the United Church and with the town’s history book as well as several other committees.
But what Dale enjoys doing on his time off is touring around with his four Percheron show horses.
They have just returned home from a ten day show tour, including a stop at the Swift Current Fair.
Working with horses is not new to the Brady family, as Dale’s parents and other relatives have been involved with horses and other animals for years. As much as he loves all animals, Dale says he has a sweet spot for the larger breeds of horses.
"They are gentle giants, they all have their own personalities," he said.
These elegant animals always get the job done. They have taken home many first place prizes, including in Swift Current.
Dale and his wife Lynn attend several horse shows each summer and say they are getting to know many of the competitors, who they see at events year after year. However, he added, there are some younger competitors also taking part in Saskatchewan horse events, which they hope will keep the pastime alive for a few more decades to come.
"We're kind of a dying breed, so it's good to see the young people at it."
Dale worked in construction before switching over to farming for several years, until retiring in 2008, and now spends most of his time enjoying life on the family’s farm which includes several horses as well as cats and a dog.
