Coaches of the U12 Battlefords Santos travelling team recognized they had a team endowed with athleticism and talent from the first tryouts to after their only practice before the team’s first tournament.

Still, coaches Glen Sieben and Justin Vitkaukas were unsure what to expect from a team that had half a roster of new players this season.

They say they had their work cut out for them in order to have the team gel in time to be competitive, especially with only four team practices worked in during the entire season.

But gel the did, earning three medals in three Saskatoon tournaments entered — two gold and one silver. The tournaments were Division 2  Lakewood and Division 3 Avalon and Eastside.

The Santos, who wrapped up their season in June, is made up of players from the four competitive U12 teams that play in the Battlefords Youth Soccer Association.
