Our deepest heartfelt sorrow for the loss of our father, Barry Leonard Blakley. He was born on March 11, 1940 and passed away July 5, 2012 at his home in Weyburn. Barry was 72 years of age. We will always remember his childlike innocence, inquisitive mind, entertaining stories and carefree nature. Our dad’s signature was his strong and cheerful voice and it will be sadly missed. Employment history: Nexen, Town & Country Farms and Town & Country Restaurant. Hobbies: reading the dictionary to expand his vocabulary; watching the weather channel for the next storm forecast or sweltering heat wave; his beautiful gardens that he cherished, and the people who volunteered to plant them in his front yard when he was unable to do so; he enjoyed growing vegetables in his back yard and giving them away; his crossword puzzles; feeding all the neighborhood cats; he looked forward to and enjoyed his Sunday phone calls with his best friend, Gary Wilson. He loved reading horticulture books and watching the Blue Jays, along with other sports; the art of conversation.Gary, Curt and Brad’s Fondest Memories of Him: Fishing in the Souris River and Nickel Lake; his photo with his award winning 26 lb. jack fish; hiking to Bertha Lake in Waterton National Park, AB; our visits with Gary Wilson and his dog Gunner; our annual summer tours in the 1963 Ford Meteor with no air conditioning; our favourite destinations were Vancouver, BC, Mexico and Southern California; all his pictures that he displayed around the pool table for all to enjoy; the trip to Montreal, Quebec with Bernie and Mark Schneider; watching him nurture his gardens; the badger who always had you looking over your shoulder; the goat who butted him into the dugout; picking stones at the family farm; tossing endless hay bales in the sweltering heat; his easy-going nature and open door policy with all our friends; with Barry and Wes on their wild cow chasing episodes; the annual 10 mile cow herd run; the famous keg party; Joanne and Brad’s wedding. He is survived by his three sons Gary Blakley (Mavis), Halbrite, Curt Blakley, Lethbridge, AB, Brad Blakley (Joanne), Cochrane, AB. His grandchildren Arron Chicoine, Storthoaks, Paige Blakley, Lethbridge, AB, Chad Blakley, Lethbridge, AB. His great grandchildren Brooklyn Chicoine, Layne Chicoine, Kyler Chicoine, Sayjen Chicoine, Liam Blakley. He loved his faithful pets, Toni (Margaret), mommy cat and Alli (Toni’s daughter). His former father-in-law Wes and Alva White. A special thanks to the people who through their actions, showed Barry their genuine kindness, humanity, but most importantly LOVE during his life and his last days. Special note form Brad Blakley: After spending the last weekend of his life with him, Barry had dreams of moving to BC to be with his best bud, Gary Wilson. Barry never got to fulfill his dream. The human spirit never dies. Till we meet again DAD! May you rest in peace. A special thank you to Joanne Blakley and the Tuttle family for their support and kindness during an extremely difficult time.
