Yellow Grass (cpd) — The National Terry Fox School Run Day is on Thursday, Sept. 27. On this day, the students in Yellow Grass School will participate in their Terry Fox Run.
Students and staff will leave the school at approximately 2:30 p.m. and walk around the town and finish at the school. Interested public members may join in.
Teachers of the Yellow Grass School held their first meeting on Aug. 27. They then attended the 2012 Southeast Cornerstone Teachers Convention in Arcola and Carlyle on Aug. 29 to 30.
A staff development day was held for all staff in the Yellow Grass school resource centre on Aug. 31.
An open house will be held at the school on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m.
A “Muffin Mania” was held at the Golden Harvest Drop-In Centre on Sept. 4 was attended by 20 people. A variety of muffins, coffee, tea and juice was enjoyed. Prize winners were Ruth Boren, Shirley Bartlett, Eleanor McClinton and Doc Bornholdt. Proceeds will be used for computer expenses, other programming and general expenses at the Centre.
The next “Muffin Mania” will be held at the Golden Harvest Drop-In Centre on Tuesday, Oct. 2 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. This will be the final event for this year. People wishing to donate muffins may sign the list at the Centre. One or two people are needed to assist in the kitchen. Further details is available at the centre or from Jacqueline Lenz.
Winners of crib played at the Drop In Centre on Aug. 17 were Ruth Boren in first and Ivy Kerr in second. Then during a crib tournament on Aug. 24, winners were Ruth Boren in first and Donna Chase in second. Another crib tournament was held Aug. 31, and winners were Sophie Skulmoski in first and Ruth Boren in second.
Kevin and Isla Rutten from Vernon, B.C. visited with Gordon and Jeannette Rutten and family from Aug. 11 to 18. Many relatives helped Gordon and Jeannette celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary at the Drop-In Centre on Aug. 12.
George Wayne Howard “Tyke” Whitrow of Yellow Grass passed away on Sept. 1 at 71 years of age. A service of remembrance was held on Sept. 4 at the RD Funeral Chapel in Weyburn. Judy Beck officiated and interment was held in the Yellow Grass cemetery. Lunch followed in the Yellow Grass Legion Hall.
Bryan James Longley of Yellow Grass passed away on Sept. 2 at 63 years of age. A private family graveside service was held on Sept. 6 in the Laurier Cemetery at Radville with Rev. Isabelle Frank officiating.
High school students who worked for the Town of Yellow Grass during the summer months were Nicolas Wawryk and Dane Moore. With their help the grass was kept trimmed up.
The Yellow Grass Branch Library will be closed on Sept. 24 as the librarian and assistant will be attending the fall librarians workshop.
