Holy Family Roman Catholic School Division made a three-year plan to open up communication with community members, at the first Holy Family regular board meeting for the 2012-2013 school year. The meeting took place last Wednesday.
The board wants to connect with stakeholders and different groups like parents, municipal authorities and church groups.
“It’s a communication program where we meet with (these groups) periodically to discuss what they think about education. It’s kind of a yardstick,” said Chief Financial officer of the board, Cal Martin.
Board chair Bruno Tuchsherer began the meeting by welcoming Keith Thompson to his position of Assistant Director of Education.
A joint conference sponsored by trustees Kate Maclean, Bruno Tuchsherer, Kristin Bourassa, and Bev Hickie will be part of a School Division calendar committee. The committee will include principals, teachers, parents, and students. The mandate of the committee will be to make recommendations for a 2013-14 school calendar based on proposed changes to the Education Act regulations.
A draft Board 2012-13 Continuous Agenda was reviewed and updated. Following changes, the agenda will be brought back to the Board for approval. Also discussed were new teaching methods for the 21st century classroom.
