Edith Evelyn Krueger

Edith Evelyn Krueger

Edith Evelyn Krueger passed away at Regina General Hospital on Tuesday, December 11 at the age of 82 years.  Edith was born on June 1, 1930 in Weyburn. She was the oldest of eight children born to Bernard and Wanda Schmidt and as the oldest child she helped look after her younger brothers and sisters. Edie was raised in Weyburn and attended the Weyburn Haig School and Weyburn Collegiate. Edith worked as a cook at the Anderson Café until she left to take care of her mother, who was ill. On August 5, 1966 Edith married Albert “Ab” Krueger in Weyburn. After they married, they moved to live on the farm at Midale. Although Edie and Ab didn’t have any children of their own their nieces and nephews became their grandchildren. Edie was truly loved by them. Whenever they came back to Weyburn each one of them made sure to visit Auntie Edie. On Ab and Edie’s 25th Anniversary, her nieces and nephews showed their love by singing a song they had composed, and by performing a skit about “Camp Krueger” (the endearing name they gave Ab and Edie’s farm). When Ab retired they returned to Weyburn. Edie was a member of the Ladies Circle at Zion Lutheran Church. She loved to garden, decorate wedding cakes and tried her hand at many different crafts. Many can attest to her excellent cooking skills as well. At the age of 80, she had the spunk to let her niece take her for a ride in an ATV. There was a lot of cheering and there were many pictures taken of this adventure. Edie always took care of everyone, and her love and caring will be remembered by all who knew her. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Bernard and Wanda Schmidt; husband, Albert, “Ab”; brothers, Werner, Lucien “Lou”; sister, Gertrude Jackson and special great niece, Kim Elgren. She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers, Alfred (Fran) Schmidt, Eugene (Thelma “Bubbins”) Schmidt and Eric (Susan) Schmidt and her sister, Betty Schmidt as well as nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Monday, December 17 from Fletcher Funeral Chapel. A funeral service was held Tuesday, December 18 from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Marjorie McLeod, CLA officiating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn.  Pallbearers were Bill Schmidt, Steve Schmidt, Tong Schmidt, Adam Ziegler, Jim Sturgeon and Michael Schmidt. Donations may be made in memory of Edith to a charity of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be left at: www.fletcherfuneralchapel.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd. Weyburn (306) 842-5432
