Midale (cpd) — The Midale Oilmen’s Association will be hosting their 25th annual Curling Bonspiel on Feb. 21, 22 and 23. It starts on the evening of the 21st, runs most of the day on Friday with a supper, Dutch auction and dance. Saturday is the playoffs. Cost to enter is $240 per team. The dance is open to all aged 19 and older. Sorry, no minors allowed this year. To enter a team, please call Catrina Moldenhauer or text Darren Moldenhauer. The Midale Mustangs started up play again after their Christmas break with a home game against the Oxbow Huskies on Jan. 5 and lost 5-2. They hosted Carnduff here on Jan. 6 and won 10-2. Jan 9th they hosted the Arcola/Kisbey Combines and ended up with a 5-4 win in a shootout. The Mustangs hosted the Wawota Flyers on the 12th, are on the road tonight to play in Redvers, will host Arcola on Friday, Jan. 18 and play in Carlyle on Sunday, Jan. 20.
The Mini Mustangs beat Radville on Jan. 11. The Mini Mustangs were to play on the 11th in Lampman and then in a game in Gladmar on the 12th. Results hopefully will follow next week.
The Novice Storm played host to the Estevan Stars here at home on Jan. 11. They played in a tournament in Lampman on Jan. 12. Coming up on the 19th is the Storm’s home tournament. They have five other teams coming. Come out and support the Novice team. They will play at 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.
Free Public Skating will be held on Friday, Jan. 18, from 2-4 p.m. There will be no skating on the 19th as the Midale Petroleum Novice Storm are hosting a tournament and there are too many games on the 20th.
The Midale Skating Club members are selling tickets to win a choice of one of three campers or $15,000. Contact any skating club member or Michelle Kleinsasser or Catrina Moldenhauer if you would like tickets.
Midale Central School is looking to change the mascot and the name of the mascot! They will be holding a contest to see who comes up with the best new mascot and name for their school. Please hand in you entries to the office or send your entries to the school. Their current name is the Midale Marauders.
Skating is booked for physical education classes in January. Children are required to have warm clothing, skates and a hockey helmet. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated to help tie skates and to skate with the students. There is a wide range of skill levels and with more volunteers they may all be successful at skating. They will be skating on Jan. 22, 24, 29 and 31 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
Parents, please ensure your children have weather appropriate clothing at all times. There have been many kids coming to school without the proper attire to be outside playing at recess.
Midale School will be developing a Safe School Survey in January that will be given to all students and parents. This survey will be developed by the staff, students, SCC and two school parent volunteers. One high school parent and one elementary parent are needed to sit on the development committee. High school curling will be at 3:30 at the curling rink on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please remember to bring stretchy pants, clean shoes and a smile.
Adult volleyball will run every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. until Feb. 12. Admission is $2 per evening.
Mark your calendars, as there will be school on Friday, May 31 and no school on Friday, June 7.
The Science Fair is coming up soon on March 21 in Carnduff. The Grade 7 and 8 students have started coming up with ideas and working on their projects. For these two classes, the school will hold a mini-Science Fair in the afternoon of Jan. 31. The students will display their projects for other students and the community to come view.
The other classes that are taking part in the Science Fair are the Grade 9 and 10 students. They will be completing their Science Fair projects when they start science class in the second semester. More information will come at a later date. All parents and other students are encouraged to come view the hard work done by these students. Bethlehem Lutheran Church Sunday School started up again on Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. for all children ages three to 12. Bring your friends.
Long-time Midale resident Elvey Herman Julius Martinson passed away on Jan. 6 at the age of 94. His funeral was held on Jan. 10 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Midale. Lunch was served by the Midale Catering Club at the Midale Civic Centre. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nina Martinson (nee: Knutson), son Dayle (Dixie) from Midale and their three children; son, Lyle (Teri) of Calgary and their four children; son, Neil (Rhonda) of Midale and their three children; son, Glenn (Becky) of Medicine Hat and their four children; daughter Joyce Martinson of Regina and her two children; sister Hazel (Willis) Emde of Midale, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends.
