Local artists Tina Hudson and Donn Morton will have their artwork touring the province starting this September, during an Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Council (OSAC) exhibit.
The exhibit, called “Greetings from the Land of the Living Skies” is a group exhibition comprised of four Saskatchewan artists: Sandra Knoss, Cathy Terepocki, Tina Hudson and Donn Morton. The work in this exhibition presents interpretations of Saskatchewan imagery and identity.
Hudson uses photography to examine the deserted buildings that dot the Saskatchewan landscape. Her work is rich with colour and detail and often presents a unique eye for composition.
Morton creates small copper objects that mimic their larger counterparts so often found in the Saskatchewan experience. Old trucks, tractors, and agricultural equipment are scaled down to a toy-like size but retain their intricacy under his devoted hand.
Local artists will have their own opportunity to earn an invitation to enter an exhibit into the OSAC “Arts on the Move” program. This opportunity can be achieved by entering the Weyburn Arts Council’s annual Art Adjudication.
The Art Adjudication will be held at the Signal Hill Arts Centre from Mar. 8 to Apr. 26. There will be a group critique for artists on Friday, Apr. 26 from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a public reception at 7 p.m.
This year’s adjudicator is Ward Schell. He will be hosting a public workshop at the Signal Hill Arts Centre on Saturday, Apr. 27 called “Painting Like an Impressionist”.
From the local level of the art adjudication, the winning artists might gain an invitation to submit an exhibit for the OSAC “Arts on the Move” program.
The Weyburn Arts Council supports two different categories for entires. Category A must have five works entered, and the artist must be prepared to submit an exhibition proposal to OSAC.
In Category B, artists must enter three works and participate in group critique. These works do not get submitted to OSAC for an exhibit proposal.
The entry deadline for the Weyburn Art Adjudication is Friday, Mar. 1. All art must be delivered to the Signal Hill Arts Centre by Monday, Mar. 4.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Weyburn Arts Council website at www.weyburnartscouncil.ca. Contact Ron Ror, curator for the Arts Council, for further information.
