Igloo builders enjoy their home

Review photo 1329 — Greg Nikkel

The builders of an ice igloo crowd in together inside after the icy home was completed in the front yard of Geraldine Bocian and Jack Carleton’s acreage just west of Weyburn on Feb. 24. The builders are, from left, Emily Pokletar, Jorja Smolinski, Eva Severson, Avah Pokletar, Sam Severson, Jayke Smolinski and Alex Severson. Using hundreds of coloured ice blocks in milk cartons, and using wet snow as mortar, it took the group about 20 hours altogether to build the igloo, with the domed roof the trickiest part. After a few days of mild weather, a snowstorm blew in, ensuring the igloo will last for a while yet, with 13 centimentres of snow dropped on Weyburn from Sunday night over into Monday, with strong winds and low visibility during the storm.
