Les Howard Hoium was born on July 2, 1951 and passed away on August 26, 2013 at the University Hospital in Saskatoon. A graveside service was held at the Westphalia Cemetery in Midale on Saturday, August 31 with Pastor Cicely McDougall presiding. Musical selections were provided by a childhood friend, Bob Jacobson. Lunch was served by the ELC ladies at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Les had various occupations during his lifetime, however he spoke most highly of the work he did as a Drug and Addiction Rehabilitation Councillor for the Prince Albert Penitentury, Thorpe Recovery Centre and most recently, the Prairie North Health Region in Lloydminster. It is hard to imagine how many lives he touched and how many individuals he helped. Throughout his life he was challenged by medical conditions such as diabetes, heart by-passes, leg amputation, and gluten intolerance. He persevered to overcome each obstacle he encountered. Les had a great love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, diet coke, meatloaf, Chev trucks, computer games, and most recently his new bride, Bernice, with whom he loved to play cards and laugh. His face would also light up when surrounded by family. How fortunate it was that he was able to attend his Mom’s and Dad’s 60th Wedding Anniversary Celebration on the weekend of July 16, 2013! The numerous photos will be forever treasured! Les will be remembered by his parents, Marvin and Ruth Hoium, best friend and wife, Bernice Hoium, children, Bryan Hoium and Sheri (Greg) Hoium, sister, Lynda (Greg) Savenkoff and families, brother, Larry (Lorrie) Hoium and family, grandchildren, Matthew Hoium and Terry Pickett, great grandchild, Kienan Pickett, numerous friends and family. Memorial Donations in Les’ memory will be given to the Westphalia Cemetery, Diabetic Association and Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
