An early view of the Collegiate Institute

Andrew Roesslein stands by a friend’s plane, which landed on skis near the Weyburn Collegiate Institute, sometime in the mid-1940s. All of the area around the Collegiate is bare land in this photo; the old high school building was built in the year Weyburn became a city, in 1913, and is currently being demolished as a part of the renovations and new construction at the Weyburn Comprehensive School; school officials estimate the Collegiate will be demolished within the next six to eight weeks. Roesslein worked at a flour mill in Weyburn and then had his own coal business for a time, before he worked for Highways, and then a gravel construction business, and he passed away in 2003. He was born in 1920 in Yugoslavia, and his family immigrated here to Canada when he was five years old.
