EDITORIAL: Business excellence to be lauded

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce celebrated business excellence once more with the WEYBEX Awards, presented on Friday evening, and many of the winners will now be eligible for the provincial ABEX Awards, to be presented by the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.

Weyburn businesses have won at both the local and provincial levels, and this is an achievement to be very proud of, as are this year’s recipients of the WEYBEX Awards, including the following: John Hulbert of John Hulbert Construction as Business Leader of the Year; M&M Concessions for Golden Service; PAR Contracting for Community Involvement; Streamline Oilfield Services for New or Expanded Business; and in the Business Hall of Fame, La Mirage Hair Studio, M&M Concessions and Protouch Signs were inducted, with the overall winner of Business of the Year, PAR Contracting.

Each of the winners has demonstrated the reason they won, in making an impact on the business community, and on the community of Weyburn at large, in a way that makes a difference to many people.

For example, the Community Involvement award  was given to PAR Contracting which demonstrated outstanding performance in their contribution to recreation, amateur sports, arts and culture, education, charitable or non-profit groups in the city and area.

The New or Expanded Business Award went to a Streamline Oilfield Services for demonstrating exceptional performance in terms of expansion into a new product, service or line of business, or the creation of new markets or jobs. The Golden Service Award recognized M&M Concessions for “excellence in the delivery of its products, services and/or hospitality”.

In all of these aspects, the businesses awarded had to demonstrate excellence, which denotes the highest quality possible for service, products or in the way they support the community.

These members of the business community have set the bar high for other firms in Weyburn and area to aspire to and to achieve in the course of doing business or in reaching out to the community in support of non-profit groups or charities. These are business leaders who are worthy of support, and worthy of receiving accolades from their business peers and from the community at large. This is a great incentive for businesses here to see what they can do in reaching their goals and providing services.
